North Babylon beats Hills East, but Mike has his day on Offense

Even though the ball wasn’t thrown to him, Mike proved to be the offensive jauggernaut that he his and had 7 runs for 127 yards (an 18.1 average) on Saturday. Hills East played top ranked North Babylon and lost miserably 43-8. However, Mike did have more total yards than NB super-star, Ciwan McCoy. McCoy had 18 runs for a total of 102 yards. But of course that isn’t in Newsday because NB won!

The windy weather conditions seemed to hinder Mike on special teams. But Mike took a faulty snap and ran a fake punt for 45 yards! Also, he had one punt for 40 yards, this gives Mike a total of 533 punt yards and 459 return yards on the season… pretty impressive!

This saturday is Senior Day for the Hills East T-Birds. Come to the game early and see the ceremonies that will include Mike and his fellow seniors. This is Mike’s last High School Football game and he would appreciate it if everyone came out to support #3 one last time!!

T-Birds Get First Win of the Season and Mike Scores a TD!!

Last year Hills East beat Centereach in an unforgettable homecoming game, and this year they proved that they have Centereach’s number … The T-Birds won 20-13! Along with scoring the 2-pt conversion on one of RB Jarred Higgin’s touchdowns; Mike was his great self on special teams. In the 3rd quarter Mike took the Centereach kick-off 86 yards down the field and scored the touchdown!!

So congrats Mikey on the win and touchdown!!!!

Mike Leads All Long Island in Punting

Even though Mike’s primary position is Wide Receiver, he is leading all of Long Island in Punting yards. Here is the list:

  1. Mike Lykos (Hills East)    9    286
  2. Brian McGrath (Carey)    8    268
  3. Adam Goltche (Great Neck North)   3    66

If Football Games Were a 1:36 Shorter, Then the T-Birds Would’ve Had a Win!

That’s right the T-Birds lost another tough one to Newfield this Saturday in the last 1:36. Despite the bad ending, the T-Birds had an awesome start thanks to Mike. He started the game with a 97 yard kick-off return, and was stopped at the Newfield 3 yard line.

Once again Mike was limited on offense by the run heavy play calling, but he truly shined on special teams. He had 157 yards in returns, and punted for 142 yards (avg. 35.5). Mike was also one of the leaders on defense this week with 10.5 tackles and 1 for a loss of 3.

Overall all of the T-Birds looked great on Saturday despite the bad ending. Look for the away game at West Babylon to be more evenly matched for the T-Birds.

Mike and the T-Birds Featured in the Half Hollow Hills Newspaper

Mike and some other players on the T-Birds were mentioned in the Half Hollow Hills Newspaper this past week. The article talks about the T-Birds season so far, the Homecoming game, and previews the game versus Newfield.

Here’s a little peek at what Mike said,

“This year’s team has a lot of heart and has great speed and is quick in the skill positions, added senior Mike Lykos.

‘Our ultimate goal this [season] is to make the playoffs…I believe we can achieve this goal…We need to focus on staying as a team and not fighting within ourselves,’ Lykos said.”
