This Saturday the Utica Pioneers scrimmaged St. Lawrence U in their final tune-up until Saturday’s home opener against Becker College. Mike played in both the JV and Varsity scrimmages. He mostly played Special Teams for the Varsity squad and also received reps at Corner for the most of the second half. Utica beat St. Lawrence 12 – 6.
In other news Mike is no longer #3. He will be wearing #38 for Utica (#7 in Practice Jerseys).

Mike will once again be the starting lead-off and Center Fielder for the 2009 Hills East T-Birds this year! What’s exciting aout this year though is that Mike will also be pitching. He has been working with Coaches Belz and Rizzo this winter and they have finally molded Mike into a pretty crafty lefty! Look for Mike to be either a lefty specialist or fourth starter for the T-Birds.

Mike will be on a recruiting visit Hartwick College and Utica College next week! The week after that he will be visiting Cortland. Check back in a few weeks for some more information, updates, and we’ll try to get a few thoughts from Mike as well!!

The T-Birds lost their final game 14 – 6 to the East Islip Redmen. But that’s not the story. Mike had a great day with a 21 yard touchdown in the 1st quarter and also reached a personal best of 244 punt yards (one of which was 70 yards).
Also, Mike stayed on the field after the game and refelcted on his four years of high school football. This chapter is now closed in his life, but bigger and better things are to come when he plays college football. You can count on that!

This site will take a break for now, but we will post once Mike makes a collegiate decision. Also, blogging will continue come baseball season when he will once again be the Lead-Off hitter and starting Centerfielder for the HSE T-Birds.
Even though the ball wasn’t thrown to him, Mike proved to be the offensive jauggernaut that he his and had 7 runs for 127 yards (an 18.1 average) on Saturday. Hills East played top ranked North Babylon and lost miserably 43-8. However, Mike did have more total yards than NB super-star, Ciwan McCoy. McCoy had 18 runs for a total of 102 yards. But of course that isn’t in Newsday because NB won!
The windy weather conditions seemed to hinder Mike on special teams. But Mike took a faulty snap and ran a fake punt for 45 yards! Also, he had one punt for 40 yards, this gives Mike a total of 533 punt yards and 459 return yards on the season… pretty impressive!
This saturday is Senior Day for the Hills East T-Birds. Come to the game early and see the ceremonies that will include Mike and his fellow seniors. This is Mike’s last High School Football game and he would appreciate it if everyone came out to support #3 one last time!!
Last year Hills East beat Centereach in an unforgettable homecoming game, and this year they proved that they have Centereach’s number … The T-Birds won 20-13! Along with scoring the 2-pt conversion on one of RB Jarred Higgin’s touchdowns; Mike was his great self on special teams. In the 3rd quarter Mike took the Centereach kick-off 86 yards down the field and scored the touchdown!!
So congrats Mikey on the win and touchdown!!!!
